In 1996, Capital One moved from relying on teaser rates to adopting more innovative techniques that would attract more customers to their business model. The company came up with co-branded, secured, and joint-account credit cards to compete with other companies that offered higher ceilings on loan balances and no-annual-fee accounts. In mid-1996, Capital One received approval from the federal government to set up Capital One FSB. Jamie Dimon, CEO of rival firm JPMorgan Chase, said he welcomed the deal, even if his bank would be surpassed as the country’s biggest credit card lender. He also praised Capital One’s CEO, Richard Fairbank.

I have used Capital One’s checking and high-yield savings accounts for years as well as their SavorOne credit card for the past year or so. I have nothing but excellent experiences with Capital One. They responded promptly and corrected fraudulent activity on my debit card and waived a late fee I incurred on my credit card when I was 7 minutes late to pay Lol. Originally, I chose SavorOne, not because it was Capital One, but because the rewards are pretty great for me (specifically the 3% cash back all the time in grocery stores and dining out), and no annual fee.
I have had a Capital One 360 checking account since they became an online bank. They have the best customer service and they are quick to make things right for their customers. Don’t change how you do things Capital One. I would recommend them.

They are always available. Never wait more than 5 minutes for service….. The app is easy to use and they take debit payments right on the app and payment post in 24 hours, they increase my credit line as well.
I’ve been banking with Capital One for years. I’ve had no negative experiences and I find that customer service goes above and beyond. If you’re deciding which bank to go with for a checking account, do yourself a favor and pick Capital One. Keep in mind that the Capital One Credit Card is a partner company, and not as fantastic as checking/saving with C1. The credit cards are mostly ‘meh.’
