Started the business in his grandmother’s basement in Washington, D.C. He sold apparel along the East Coast from the trunk of his car. His first team sale was for $17,000 at the end of 1996, and he later moved to Baltimore. Plank was inspired to create Under Armour while playing football. He was tired of having to change out of sweat-soaked T-shirts worn under his jersey, but his compression shorts remained dry. He created a T-shirt using moisture-wicking synthetic fabric and gave it to his Maryland teammates and friends who had gone on to play in the NFL.

Under Armour‘s first major sale came when an equipment manager from Georgia Tech requested 10 shirts from Plank. Contracts with NC State, Arizona State, and other Division I football teams followed. Under Armour launched several new apparel lines that year, including ColdGear, TurfGear, AllseasonGear, and StreetGear. By the end of 1996, Under Armour had sold 500 Under Armour HeatGear shirts, generating $17,000 for the company. In 1997, Plank had $100,000 in orders to fill and found a factory in Ohio to make the shirts.
Under Armour provided the suits worn by speed skaters in the 2014 Winter Olympics. The US speed skaters were losing while wearing the new Mach 39 speed suits, but when they reverted to the previous model suits, the skaters continued to lose. Although there did not appear to be a design flaw in the suit that caused the poor results, the news of the suits caused Under Armour stock to drop 2.38%.
Plank soon improved the design, creating a new T-shirt built from microfibers that wicked moisture away. Nike, Adidas, and Reebok soon followed with their moisture-wicking apparel. Plank opted to use the British spelling “armor” in the company name because the toll-free vanity number was still available for that version.
On January 21, 2014, the University of Notre Dame and Under Armour announced that they had reached an agreement to provide uniforms and athletic equipment for the university.

I’m a big fan of Under Armour customer service lightweight, breathable athletic wear. The innovative fabrics make a real difference during intense workouts. My UA shirts, shorts, and pants continue to hold up very well over time. My only complaint is their gear runs expensive, especially shoes. But overall the quality is worth the price for serious athletes.
A few months ago, I bought a pair of Under Armour Women’s Leggings and I’m extremely pleased with my purchase. The high waistband is very comfortable and doesn’t slip down during workouts. It works well at keeping me cool and dry, even during intense exercise. The ankle length is just right for me and the leggings have held up well after multiple washings.

I bought 2 UA shoes for me and my husband months ago and the delivery was fast. We received the item in less than a month and we liked the shoes. We’ve been using it almost every day for months now and I must say that it is very comfortable and lightweight. Would buy it again!
I play soccer and basketball a lot. I’ve purchased plenty of Under Armour products such as soccer cleats, cold wear, socks, etc. Their products are of high quality. The problem I have is that there aren’t plenty of physical Under Armour stores around.
